Welcome to Gainsborough School: Proud home of the Wildcats!

Our school has approximately 250 students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. Our teaching and support staff work extremely hard and are dedicated to ensuring that each of our students has the opportunity to achieve his/her personal best, both in the classroom and in the many extra-curricular programs offered during the school year.

Our school is well known for its innovative programs. We previously piloted the intensive support program (for students having academic difficulty in the regular classroom) which has since been implemented in all DSBN schools. We converted to a balanced school day several years ago to ensure that our students had large blocks of uninterrupted instructional time. We are currently piloting a full day/every day senior kindergarten program as well as a full day/alternate day junior kindergarten program with great success.

In our school growth plan this year we continue to emphasize priorities in literacy and numeracy. Our goals are based on the belief that all students can achieve high standards given sufficient time and support. In addition, we have a monthly character education focus based on the character traits included in our student agendas.

Our educational team extends beyond the classroom to our parents and caregivers as they support student learning in these and other areas. We are fortunate to have a very active school advisory council and parent volunteer program. In addition, the Gainsborough community is well known for its compassion and has rallied around families in need of support for a variety of reasons, especially for our students with life-threatening food allergies and medical needs.

Communication between the home and school is the key to student success. This website, as well as our student agendas, school and classroom newsletters, conferences and intermediate portfolios are examples of some of the tools at your disposal. We value your input and look forward to our continued partnership. Please don’t hesitate to contact myself or any staff member if you have questions, concerns or words of appreciation.

Sincerely,

Kathy Siamro
